For Christmas, my Mom bought me a sewing machine. I’ve been wanting one for a while, but I had no idea what to buy or what to even look for. I’ve never used a sewing machine in my life. I never even took a Home Ec. course in high school. So anyway, Mom bought me a sewing machine for Christmas, and it scares the hell out of me. I mean, it’s just so intimidating. There’s so many moving parts, and I could sew my own finger if I’m not careful! I half expect me to get some settings wrong and it will just blow up. After reading the instruction booklet 5 times in December (and failing to understand each time), I put the machine and booklet away. Today, after 2 hours of reading the instructions, I finally managed to thread the machine, thread the bobbin, and get the bobbin thread into the needle! This is a feat for me, especially considering the way the instruction book reads. Here’s an actual line: “While holding the thread near spool, draw thread down into the tension area and then around the check spring holder.” WTF? It was only the nice pictures that even begun to save me. I haven’t actually sewn anything yet, because I don’t know how loud the machine is and John’s still asleep. I just have to figure out how to use this fun thing this week, so that I can have time to alter my French maid outfit before Atari’s party.
