Birds of Prey!!

Anyone that knows me knows what a total bird freak I am, especially when it comes to predatory birds. Here in Athens, we have a rescue zoo called Bear Hollow. John and I go there to relax at the lake sometimes. Well, last Sunday, they had an open classroom birds of prey thing, so I jumped all over the chance to get to see these birds. The director of volunteers happenbed to be there that day, so I asked if I could volunteer to work with the birds. She was happy to find out that I have bird experience, child experience, and computer experience. 🙂 She asked me to come back the next Sunday (yesterday) and do the same thing with kids. It’s basically answering questions and helping kids put on masks and tattoos. Jamie, the girl that I was helping, got out Atari (barn owl) twice, and she let me handle Cloudy (the screech owl you see in the photo). Brian, another intern there, came in to say hi, then got out Henrietta (great horned owl). He’s young, but very cool, and he likes birds of prey as much as I do, so I think I’ll get along with him well. I was so excited about holding a real owl that my hands were shaking. I’m sure he didn’t enjoy it, but he didn’t hiss at me once.
