So, Meggie and her freinds Merideth and Heather went out and about last night for the Athens Downtown costume fun. I decided not to go as I am still sick, but I did help Megan and Meri with their costumes. I lent Meri my Sexy Halloween costume from 2004. It was really fun to see how different she looked in it. She sure took it in a different direction than me. She even had awesome makeup and a curly mohawk to go with the riding crop she added. Meggie ressurected the black costume once again, making it the third time this one’s been worn. I wore it out the last time we were both downtown, way back in 2002. She looks better in it than me.
I had a great costume all planned and ready. I didn’t put it all on to get photos, but hopefully I can do that eventually. It’s the little red dress with the black designs, some flame wings, some fishnet tights and a pair of glittery devil horns. It’ll be really cute if I ever get a chance to wear it. It’ll probably come in handy for a Sexy Halloween at some point.

Just for the hell of it, I also bought some Mini-Pumpkins and carved them up. I was curious as to whether they’re just gourds or if they are actual pumpkins. They’re real pumpkins! Since I had chopped them open, I decided that carving them would be a lot easier than carving a huge pumpkin and scooping all that junk out of it. It was fun! It took me about an hour to empty and carve up all five of them, but two were too small to actually fit the tea-candles in. They’re only about 3-4 inches across and about 2 inches tall. I got the fun fall pumpkin carving smell without having to get my hands all slimy. Yay!

Meggie has been here (as in, in town) for a few days. She was here to go to the annual Athens Downtown party, where everyone dresses up in costume and runs around downtown’s 6 blocks of bars for Halloween. The last time I went, it was with her, in 2002.. I think. I was supposed to go with her and a few of her freinds this time, but I opted to stay in. Too sick to go. It was really disappointing, but I’d rather be disappointed and well rather than sick for another week or so. She’s been staying on and off with me, but yesterday was the first time she’s had a whole afternoon with me, so we went for a stroll with the new camera, just to pass time. It was warm out, and I needed some fresh air too.
We took a walk down by the local creek and saw some fun fish. I got an interesting photo of a spiky seed pod and also a photo of Megan taking a picture of them with her camera phone. It doesn’t do macro too well. She ended up with a nice photo of the tree behind them though. It takes surprisingly nice photos! I got some more of some flowers and a red leaf, and a few of her. All in all, it was just a nice afternoon running around being sisters. Something we don’t get to do often (as in, once every few years), and it certainly put me in a better mood after being sick for so long.

Last night I dreamed I saw a Rufous Hummingbird at my feeders. I was so excited to get my camera that I woke myself up. Nerg.

I haven’t talked about hummingbirds for a while now. That’s because I don’t have any around anymore. The last one I had departed early on September 24th. Since I’m not in a flyway, I can’t really expect to have any more this year. I’m still hoping to get lucky and get a visit from something that’s overwintering, but winter hummingbirds are pretty rare, even as warm as it is around here. Hummingbirds don’t migrate on food availability or temperature, they migrate based on the amount of light durring the day.
I have three feeders out now. I’ll keep all three out all year round, bot only two will be filled, and those two will only be filled halfway to prevent too much waste. Mom told me she was out of the humingbird business. She says the feeders I gave her for mother’s day are great, but she just can’t keep up with them, so she gave them back to me. So now I have 4 Hummzinger Excels, one red glass apple feeder, one copper window feeder, and a much disliked Opus 440-12. I plan on buying some of these uber-cute stick feeders, so I’ll have hummingbird feeders out my ears. Trinny left the hummzinger I gave her with Larken, so I’ll assume she doesn’t want another. If anyone else wants one, let me know. They’re great feeders, but I don’t have a place to put four of them around here.

That hunk of EVIL is still there. Today I seriously contemplated swallowing a waffle whole, theorizing that if it totally blocked my windpipe that it would surely sweep the nasty EVIL out of my throat. It took me a good 5 minutes before I realized that the idea had a few bad points. That’s how totally insane this is making me. Thursday I figured that pipe cleaners down the throat might work. Yesterday it was thinking I could swallow some steel wool. I actually TRIED shoving my whole hand in my mouth and sweeping it out with my fingers. That didn’t work so well. Luckily, one of the cough meds the doc gave me has codine in it, so I’ve been spending my evenings high. I refuse to spend all day high, because if it’s rather prominent abuse potential. I really don’t need to go to rehab for cough syrup addiction. It’s rather bizzare when you feel fine, then you realize that you can’t feel your skin.

So, Pre-K employment has finally caught up with me.
Saturday - Somewhat sore throat in me morning, fever of 101 by 8pm.
Sunday - Very sore throat, fever down to 99
Monday - Called in sick, went to Health Dept. They say Strep, but tell me they can’t treat it. They say I should be fine.
Tuesday - Go to work. Cough all day, but no fever. Very tired. Feel like I have a nasty hunk of snot caught in my throat.
Wednesday - Go to work. Hunk of whatever is driving me close to insanity. Still coughing up my lungs. Director shoves me out the door at 4pm and tells me not to come back until I’ve seen a doctor.
Today - Go see doctor. He says “Sinusitis”. Get antibiotics and cough meds. Hunk of evil still there. Contemplating swallowing a brillo-pad.
On the up-side, the doc said I can’t go back to work until Monday, so I have the next three-four days to get rid of this shit. AND… my camera arrives tomorrow.
