From the shoot on sunday. I LOVE that red hair. I can’t wait until it gets longer. Her two front theeth are coming in, so she kept tougneing them. Fully 1/2 the shots I got of her are with her tougne hanging out of her face.
Her mommy said they’re very impressed and will certainly call on me again as she gets older. They’re also passing out my website to freinds with kids. Yay!
Stephen is over here for who knows how long. He came just to stop in and pick up some stuff that he left here the last time, but he’s staying for at least the night because he’s got a fever AND shingles. I mean, as if shingles isn’t bad enough on it’s own.
From Web MD: “Shingles is caused by the reactivation of the virus (varicella-zoster virus) that causes chickenpox. After you recover from chickenpox, the virus lies dormant (inactive) in your nerve roots. In some people, it stays dormant for the rest of their lives. In others, the virus reactivates when disease, stress, or aging weakens the immune system.1 The cause of reactivation of the virus is unclear; however, once it does reactivate, it causes shingles, not another case of chickenpox. Most people who get shingles will not get the disease again, although it does come back in a few people.”
It hurts like HELL. It’s like someone stabbing needles into your skin every once in a while. It causes nerve damage and everything. It takes forever to go away, and while he has it, he shouldn’t be around kids because they’ll show up with chicken pox. Add in the fever that makes him ache and shiver and he’s not a happy camper. So, anyone with kids or who hasn’t had chicken pox isn’t allowed over for a while.
This weekend was absolutely packed. I had a shoot on Saturday afternoon and a shoot this morning. The shoot on Saturday after noon was fun, although I kept my model there for much longer that I had expected to. Normally studio shoots run shorter that on location shoots, but she was here for almost 3 hours! It was a lot of fun though, and I hope she had as much fun as I did. We messed around with several different outfits and backdrops, then i took her outside for some quick face shots.
The shoot this morning was a baby shoot. The baby in question is 9 months old and a blue-eyed redhead. I mean, that girl has copper-penny colored hair. That was a really nice surprise, as I LOVE redhead kids. I can’t wait to kidnap her for some more photo-fun when she’s older. Once I get a model-release signed I’ll post photos of her here. I expected her to be all over the place, but she’s really sedate. So sedate it was tough to make her smile. I got a few out of her though. Her mom was really sweet and easy to talk to, which made it more relaxing for me.
I’ve been working hard on getting the sets edited, but as I’m running through them I can’t help but think “Yeah, but is it worth it?”. Not to me, no.. the client. Are they really getting their money’s worth from me? I worry that a paying client will see the photos and go “I paid ____ for THAT?” Or have a terrible time with me durring the session. Did my model on Saturday walk away feeling good about herself, or horrible? Or even indifferent? I just wish I were more confident about my abilities.
A bit of an actual conversation between John and I last night at bedtime.
Me: “How is it that the sheet ends up over there andthe whole blanket ends up over here?”
John: “I think I kick them off in the night.”
Me: “Yeah, but why not both? No, they part ways and migrate. It’s like you.”
John: “I part ways and migrate?”
Me: “Well, your hair does. It parts ways with your shoulders and migrates to your butt.”
John: “It does not!”
Me: “No, it’s more like.. infestation. Contamination?”
John: ::pause:: “Heroic Journey.”
It’s also John and I’s 6 year anniversary today (or somewhere near today, since neither of us can remember what the actual day was). Since John will be at practice this evening, we’ll have lunch out and then on Sunday we’ll go to the flea market for some photo props and old video games. Happy 6 years, honey. Happy many more.
Thanks to Blixem for this list. It’s the list of words that Verizon employees may not use when speaking or writing to Verizon customers. As John pointed out, they might still be able to say ‘wang’ to us. My new favorite word: manloaf.

My cards are in! I ordered 100 glossy-coated rounded-corner cards. I love the rounded corners, but the square corners inside look a bit odd. That will have to be fixed for next re-order. Also, the glossy coating looks nice, but doesn’t seem to stay on very well. It’s already flaking up on the edges of a few, and they’re not even out of the box yet! I’m glad I didn’t go ahead and get 300 of these. Now that they’re in, I can start ‘advertising’ by stalking local playgrounds and such. I also need to work on getting the site a bit nicer. I have set my rates a little more, and also offer a ‘Day in the Life’ book servie. I mean, I do one every week. It’d be fun to do DITL’s for other people.
Got my Official Photographer shirt for the GA Hummingbird Festival next weekend. It’s two day, so there will be plenty of photos. Those of you in Georgia should all come by. Not only do they offer banding demonstrations (you can even release a real hummingbird), but also kid’s activities, tours of the plantation, music, hay rides.. etc.

Directions: On I-20, take Exit 98 (GA11). Take GA11 south through Mansfield. Make a right on County Line Road (4th or 5th road after getting out of Mansfield). Make a right on Henderson Mill Road. Make a right on Davis Ford Road. Once on Davis Ford Road you should see Gaithers Plantation on the right. Gaither’s Plantation: 270 Davis Ford Rd. Covington, GA 30014
I’ll turn 27 at about 8:30 pm EST this evening. Not much is going on today though. S is coming up on Monday to watch terrible silent movies from the 1920’s with us. There will be a little booze, but not much because booze makes loud and loud wakes the baby in the house. On saturday the 5th, John’s driving me down into Atlanta to meet up with my mom so she can pick up her wedding dress. It’s done being altered.
I had a ‘dress-up’ photodate with Olivia yesterday afternoon. Unfortunantly, it was about 95 degrees out with no shade, making everyone miserable. I was sweating everywhere.. I think I even got a little bit of a sunburn. I’ll have to remember to put a brush in my ‘props’ box when I make one.
