A lot of you have only seen the 365 photos from the work sessions, so I’m doing a few more from client sessions.

This is her wedding dress! Can you believe she consented to put it all on again and tromp around the Botanical Gardens with me? I love it. We had so much fun. I think the part neither of us will forget is the field-trip that coincided with our trip that day. One of the teachers even incorporated her in the tour, passing us with an exclamation of “Oh, hello, Blue Fairy! Look children, it’s a blue fairy!”

glue
Today I learned a new thing: NEVER put anything with hot glue on it in the dryer. I was ironing these two matching princess dresses for a shoot this evening and I thought “Boy, this is a pain in the ass. I could really save myself some time by just running these through the dryer.” I walked up to the laundry room, threw them in the dryer, and walked back home thinking how clever I was. 60 minutes later, I walked back up and opened the dryer door to find the dresses covered in melted hot glue, all the bows, flowers and ribbons in a pile at the bottom of the dryer. $*&@*$%^)*(%!^!! I ran to the store to get a glue gun and fixed most of the fallen-off bits. Some are totally missing, and there’s still hot glue sprayed all over the front of the small dress. ARG! Thank goodness tonight’s shoot isn’t a paid shoot. I’ll edit out the spots on the dress for this shoot, but I’ll have to buy another one in the small size. Jesamin, it’s size 2T if it’ll fit one of yours for dress-up stuff.

June 22: Larken and I saw this bizzare sight while eating lunch at the mall. Yes, that woman’s pants are see-through. WTF??!!

June 19th, 2007

I dreamed last night that I was pregnant… again. This is the third time this month I’ve had pregnant dreams. Arg, I really thought they’d be a few more years in coming, honestly. I don’t want kids. John doesn’t want kids. We’re sick of people telling us ‘you’ll change your mind’, but the thought of being pregnant is becoming less and less disturbing over time. This dream I was just two weeks in and John and I had decided to keep the baby (as opposed to aborting early, because I’m pro-choice). It was already as big as my fist, so i was insanely worried that I was much more than 2 weeks in, but I’d had my period the month before. When I woke up, I actually had to feel on my belly to make sure there wasn’t anything there, and for a few minutes in my sleep-haze, I was disappointed. Dammit body, NO to babies! We don’t have the finances, the patience or the desire!

In other news, I’m stopping the 365 photos thing. I haven’t touched a camera in 6 days, and it’s been more and more of a PITA to keep up with. I will continue to take fun photos and share a little bit of the day, but it won’t be every day anymore.

On one of the photography forums I read, people have been talking about the recent trash the dress semi-fad. If you have no clue what that is, check out http://trashthedress.com/. Instead of packing the wedding gown away in a box and never looking at it again, you run around it it. Ride horses in it, go swimming in it.. etc. One person said she’s got a dress if anyone is close to Atlanta would want to shoot it, so I jumped all over it. She’s a photographer too, so I said I’d be willing to model if I had a gown to wear so she could get some shots for her portfolio too.
I bought a wedding dress on eBay for $80 a few years back thinking that John and I would be getting married at some point in the near future. Years came and went, and I gained 20lbs! I’m up from 135 to 155, which is wonderful I’m not underweight anymore!! Anyway, the dress I bought… doesn’t fit anymore. Dammit. I’m not going to go back to being underweight so I can fit into it again, so I’ll have to get a new one. The same store is still there, and still just as cheap, so I’m not worried about that.
So.. I may figure out some way to rig the old one mostly closed and go swimming it in it for the other photographer, or I may see if I can talk Larken into playing model for us that day, since she’ll likely fit into the damn thing just fine.
::grumble grumble:: At least my tastes haven’t changed for what I want.

June 3rd, 2007

Last night, John got a call from his mother letting him know that his uncle Robert (his dad’s younger brother) had passed away. Robert had diabetes (or if you’re the quaker oats guy, it’s Diabeetus) and wasn’t doing so well at all for the past few years. He’d been admitted to the hospital for pneumonia, but died before antibiotics helped. John left with morning at 7am with his dad to go to Mississippi until next week. It upset John a lot too. Robert was an eternally cheerful person, and really did make the world brighter.
The week of death is really hitting me hard. I haven’t been sleeping well at all, and I’ve got this unending headache that no about of Aleve will get rid of. Sabina’s memorial service is tomorrow afternoon, and I’m sure her death will really hit me hard sometime before or afterwards. I haven’t had a fully dry-eyed day this whole week.
I find myself thinking about what it must be like for her parents. I met her in February and she was bright and vibrant. It never even occurred to me that she’d never get better, or be dead within three months. How much harder is it for them to face her empty room and know that at some point they’ll have to do something with her things? How terrible is it to know that all your friends are mothers you know because of your daughter?
I’m giving her a sideshow of all the photos I took of Sabina, a few 5×7’s I still had, and a packet of seeds to plant. I feel like it’s not enough to give though.
