More woe and frustration

Okay… I want to cry. Here’s the shit time line for the hardware nastiness in the past two weeks:

Friday 14th: Get new motherboard from John’s dad.
Sunday 16th: Finally get to install new Motherboard. The secondary IDE port (the thing that runs the CD drives, for all you non-techies) doesn’t work.
Monday 17th: Call John’s dad who’s in NY, he says to wait until Saturday so we can get it replaced.
Saturday 22: Drive to Atlanta with John’s dad to get new motherboard. Come back up and install second new motherboard.

No, here’s where the REAL hell begins. You’ll find this interesting. For me it was torture.

7pm: Take board out of box and put it in my computer. Get all drives plugged in carefully.. etc
7:30pm: Format drive 1, install Windows 2000Pro.
8:30pm: Finish installing Windows, begin to install all drivers for the rest of my hardware.
9pm: Finish Hardware, begin on programs I use. AIM, Photoshop, Winamp.. etc
10pm: Begin copying all the files from my backup drive (drive 2).
11:30pm: Finish and go to bed, feeling good.

Today, 10:30am: Wake up, notice that the power has gone off overnight. Turn on computer. Screen reads “Primary IDE master unloadable. Warning: Drive has failed.”
11am: Reformat drive 1. Notice later that I formatted a faulty drive. Reformat drive 2, reinstall Windows.
12pm: Take computer down, plug in drive 1 again. Turn on computer. Monitor doesn’t work. Realize after 10 minutes that a pin from the monitor’s cord has actually broken off and is lodged in my video card.
12:15pm: Replace video card, go down to my car and get the second monitor that’s been in my backseat since October. Pray it works.
12:30pm: Reinstall all hardware and programs again.
1:30pm: Eat something.
2:30pm: Back to computer. Notice that drive 1 isn’t seen, therefore inaccessible. All of the stuff I’ve been working on for the past three months is gone. The art site, all of my photos, all of the drawings of the Seasons.. etc. It’s toast.
3:30pm: Lie down on floor and cry. Contemplate having to re-draw all of it. Cry more.
4pm: Larry messages me. Get up off floor and explain the morning’s mishaps. Larry says he has some of the Seasons, but he’s not sure which ones. Cry in relief.

Larry e-mailed me all of the Seasons he had. Turns out that he has all of them! Since he has all of them, and the art site is uploaded mostly on the new site, I haven’t lost all that much. ::sigh:: Much better, but I pray that nothing else will happen. For now, I’m back. Heh..
