When I was little, we (Megan, Jared and I) didn’t spend a lot of our time at home. We were mostly out running around the neighborhood woods or playing in the creek.. etc. When we were at home, Mom spent a lot of time giggling with us, but not very often laughing at us… except once. I’m sure Megan and Jared remember this as clearly as I do, because it was so out of the ordinary. One winter, she was making some apple turnovers for dinner. One of us asked “Why are they called apple turnovers?”, to which my mother replied “Because they turn over in the oven!” I, being a geek even then, though to myself “I suppose it’s plausible if the get so fat that they kind-of roll up and over as the heat rises…” So then Jared says “Can we watch them turn over??” and Mom says “Sure!” She wasn’t acting strange, so we were convinced that it was real. So, Jared jumped on a stool and Megan and I stood on either side of him. We were watching, none of s daring to turn away lest we miss them turning over… Then we heard a camera’s shutter snap behind us. As we turned around, wondering what was going on, Mom began to laugh herself sick. “It was great! You fell right into it!” she said. “I snuck back to get my camera while you were watching, and I got a picture!” Megan and I caught on quickly, but poor Jared who was young just said “You mean they don’t turn over in the oven?”
